THE RECEPTION

Double Up: Sentimental?

Have your florist create a smaller bouquet that you can use for the bouquet toss so that you can keep your actual bouquet as a keepsake.

When buying your garter, pick up an additional one for the garter toss leaving you with the original as a keepsake.

On the Table:
When choosing a centerpiece for the tables make sure the piece won’t interfere with dinner conversation. The last thing you want is your centerpiece to be cleared out of the way by guests who can’t see across the table.

Single-use cameras can be placed at each table to capture candid shots.

Wedding Toasts:
Traditionally toasting begins after the first course has been served. The kavor or the best man should make the first toast, followed by the maid of honor, and then the bride and groom give the final toast. However, keep in mind that most often than not the groom’s father may choose to also give a toast. In this case it’s up to you to decide when to fit him in.

The Cake:
Remember you will need an elegant cake knife and cake server for cutting the first slice of the cake. In addition you may consider buying elegant champagne glasses, perhaps with your initials and wedding date engraved on them.

Ask the bakery to provide an additional box so the top layer of the cake can be transported safely home to be frozen until your first anniversary.

Also, consider the option of having a smaller wedding cake elaborately decorated  to serve the purpose of a beautiful show piece.  Then have your baker make a sheet cake that will be served to the guests. This can be especially helpful if you’re having a large wedding.

BEAUTY TIPS

Facials:

Make sure that you have radiant skin for your wedding.  However, keep the following in mind.

If you have never had a facial before make sure that you set your appointment date for a month prior your wedding day. You want to insure  that your skin has enough time to recover from any signs of irritation, such as redness or minor breakouts.

Make sure you select a facial which is right for your skin type. A pre-treatment consultation with your facialist will insure that you receive the treatment best for you.

If you regularly have facials, you should schedule your appointment at least a week in advance of your wedding day.

Avoid using new skincare products prior your wedding day.

Tanning Beds:
Don’t wait a week before your wedding day to go the tanning salon. You should start a month in advance and build your tan gradually.

There are several varieties of tanning beds ranging in their performance. Make sure that you are aware of the type of tanning bed you’re using so that you have more control over the outcome of your tan.

It’s  an excellent idea to use the same tanning salon and even same tanning bed to insure consistent results.

Ask for assistance if you’re not sure which type of tanning bed would work best with your skin color.

Remember you don’t want to go overboard your first time. It’s easier to build a tan, rather than get rid of a dark one. Plus you don’t want to burn, have your skin peel and have blotchy skin on your big day.

Don’t go too dark. You should aim for a natural glow. You’re going to be wearing a white dress and you want people to comment on your glow, not on your fake tan.

Spray Tans:
Keep in mind that the bronzers used in tan sprays clog your pores and will discolor your dress when you perspire. To avoid this you should ask for the bronzer to be either clear or no stronger than no. 1. You may prevent your tan from bleeding onto your dress by dusting your body with baby powder before wearing your dress, as it will absorb the moisture and most of the color .

Spray tans take 24 hours to develop and require maintenance. You may want to consider touch up products sold at the tanning salon.

You definitely need to trial test a spray tan in advance to your wedding day. You might even consider taking a picture after the trial to see how you look in pictures.

Visit the same tanning salon as the one you originally went to for your trial test. It is important to understand that tanning solution formulas differ from salon to salon and therefore your skin may react differently. To avoid any possible skin reactions don’t switch salons if you’re trail run went well.

Tanning sprays can be tricky, especially for body parts like your hands and feet, so be careful and take the necessary precautions to insure an even tan.

Tanning Creams:
Just don’t do it. No matter how great the self tanning cream is, none of them are fool proof. Unless you have a product which you  swear by and you’ve used it several times in the past, opt out.

Keep in mind that you and your fiancé should somewhat compliment each other, so if he’s also fair skinned, you may want to consider skipping the tan all together or having him join you.

Massage:
If you’re planning a day of self indulgence before your wedding, make sure that you get your massage at least 2-3 days prior to your wedding day to make sure that you are not sore on your big day.

Drinking:
Keeping hydrated before the wedding will make your skin look healthier.

Avoid excessive drinking the night before the wedding. You don’t want to have a hangover the day of your wedding.

Sleep:
They don’t call it beauty sleep for nothing. Make sure that you get plenty of rest before your big day. This means going to sleep at a decent time the couple of days prior to your wedding day. Believe it or not, this is probably going to be the hardest advice to follow, but nonetheless the most important.

BRIDAL ACCESSORIES

When choosing your bridal jewelry, keep in mind that you’ll be wearing them the entire day. Avoid heavy chunky jewelry.

If you purchase your bridal jewelry individually on separate days, bring the other pieces along to make sure they compliment one another.

Your wedding headpiece should compliment both your jewelry and hairstyle. Bring them along to your pre-wedding consultation so your hairstylist can make the right suggestions.

Make sure to try your bridal jewelry with your wedding gown before the wedding date.

During alterations you should try on the wedding dress with the exact undergarments and shoes you will be wearing the day of your wedding. That means you should shop early for both.

Shoes can be tricky since some women prefer looks to comfort. You don’t have to sacrifice buying a pair of shoes you really like. An easy solution would be to buy a pair of ballet slippers to change into during the reception. However keep in mind, you’re going to be on your feet the entire day so make sure you opt for comfort. Plus they’re going to be hidden underneath your gown for most of the day.

After you purchase your wedding shoes, you should break them in well before the wedding date. Try walking and standing in them for several hours and do this a couple of times.

Also keep in mind you’ll need a small sized purse to match your shoes and dress which will be brought to the bride’s house by the groom’s party on the day of the wedding with her shoes. (see wedding traditions)

Make sure one of your bridesmaids or maid of honor brings along a purse for the essentials, such as make-up for touch ups, safety pins, a small sewing kit, perfume, tissues, Q-tips, and anything else you could possibly use.

INVITATIONS

Take a sample invitation to the post office to insure that you use the correct postage amount. Remember the size of the wedding card you choose will effect the amount you pay for postage.

Send a “Save the Date” reminder only if your wedding falls on a holiday or a busy time of the year. You should also consider sending “Save the Date” reminders to all guests who will need to make travel arrangements to attend your wedding.

Mail out wedding invitations 4-6 weeks before your wedding.

If making your own invitations, spell out words such as Doctor, Junior, and Avenue. Also, spell out dates as in “sixth of August”, rather than “August 6;”  use “half after seven” rather than “7:30.”
