Talar's Story: Let There Be Cake!

Written by . Posted in Talar's Story

It seems as though wedding cakes have become a sort of competition: how many tiers, how many flavors, the design, etc. I've even seen some upside down, albeit beautiful, cakes. I knew that I always wanted a smaller cake, something simple yet elegant, plain yet delicious. So naturally, I started my search, like most others, on Pinterest. I searched and searched and never found a cake that I fell in love with. I even put Serj to work to find a design he liked, and well, he came back with a Batman cake!

Ultimately, I met with a few cake vendors and saw some of their amazing work. Baking cakes is such an amazing art! For those who don't know, most cake bakers will design and make a faux cake with one real layer, and to eat, they will prepare sheet cakes to be stored in the kitchen. So it's the design that you're looking at, not the height. To my understanding, the height can be adjusted as necessary and the more tiers you have, depending upon how intricate the design, may not cost you too much more than having a small cake.

Keeping all of this in mind, I walked into Roobina's Cakes. My sister-in-law/maid of honor recommended them to me and reminded me that they had made my niece's most delicious birthday cake and the taste just came right back! Both of us had cakes to order so we visited Roobina's and I showed a picture of the cake Serj and I had agreed upon and immediately they got to work. They printed a copy of the picture, and started writing all of their notes. Thankfully, the person we met with understood all of the details that I wanted and requested.

When to order:

3 or more months before wedding date

Costs to Expect:

$1,000 - $2,500

*Note: When giving your cake vendor a guest count, be sure to remember that by the time the cake is served, some of your guests will have left and so it may be best to reduce your actual guest count. Most cake vendors, specially Armenians, will already do that for you. Also, I have realized that each cake baker has their specialty flavor... don't doubt it, just go with it!
