Light And Breezy Wedding Bells: Summer Wedding Trends For 2014
We are undoubtedly lucky to have so many warm and sunny days here in Southern California. But even though the weather may be similar during the winter and summer months, you’ll find differing tastes and trends in the wedding industry, depending on the season.
We spoke with with Vrej Sarkissian, CEO of Anoush Catering and L.A. Banquets, who shared with us a few summer wedding trends you’re sure to see in the following months.
Colors:

While light, muted tones will never go out of style, you’ll be seeing lots of orchid. The pinky-purple hue will be everywhere, from flowers to linens to bridesmaids dresses and groomsmen attire. But instead of covering the entire wedding in tons of hue variations, Vrej recommends using a couple of shades as the statement color for a unified look.
Flowers:

First and foremost? Think about the seasonal blooms. If you’re planning to tie the knot in the May, June, or July months, consider peonies, gerberas, or zinnias. The last thing you’ll want to do is pick flowers that you find beautiful, but need to be brought in from an exotic, far-off destination. (Hello, cost increase.) Though the classic all-white bouquet will always remain a matrimonial tradition, the brighter, seasonal bouquets are a growing alternative.
Décor:

Brides that want to forgo oversized crystal chandeliers but retain an element of glamour can turn to a “rustic chic” summer wedding. Farm settings, barn receptions, and nature-inspired décor are perfectly suited to a summer affair. Think: branches, lanterns, wooden tables, wildflowers, dessert bowls made of bark, mason jars, and photos strung along a tree or clothesline. An early-evening sunset gives you soft, elegant lighting, and it would seem only natural for a bride to ride in on a horse.
And speaking of horses…
Venues:

What could be more romantic than arriving at your ceremony in a horse-drawn carriage? At outdoor wedding destinations like Middle Ranch, brides can live out their fairytale wedding fantasy in a scenic and rural environment. Though Middle Ranch is commonly known as an equestrian center, the stunning mountain views and sprawling lawns make it a naturally beautiful setting to exchange vows. Plus, the outstandingly picturesque backgrounds result in flawless wedding photos.
Food & Drink:

Think back to summertime fun when you were younger. What kind of flavors and textures did you enjoy? Fresh strawberries and cream? Tangy citruses? Homemade barbeque? Use those as inspiration for your menu. Then put a delicious new twist on the recipes. Think: hot and spicy, and reinvented classics. Keep an eye out for sauces and seasonings like Sriracha, Gochujang, and Shichimi Togarasgi that will add a nice kick to your appetizers, entrees and cocktails. Don’t be surprised if you’re served dressed-up beef sliders or shrimp skewers served on monogrammed napkins.
We can't wait to see these trends come to life in the upcoming summer wedding season! If you have any other summer trends predictions, share with us on our Facebook wall!
