Talar's Story: My Most Important Wedding Day Vendor

Written by . Posted in Talar's Story

There's just one person who has been helping me plan my wedding well before I was even engaged. In fact, she happens to be my most important wedding day vendor. You see, I'm a type one diabetic, and although during my every day this isn't that big of a deal, for my wedding day, it's the most important "deal". When brides plan their "day-of" events, most will tell you that you simply can't account for what to eat and when you will be given a chance to actually eat a meal. For me, this isn't an option.

Therefore, my doctor (i.e. my wedding day vendor) and I have been planning my day for months now. She is the one person, other than maybe my photographer, who has my minute-to-minute timeline for the "day of". She has helped me plan my meals for the day and has worked with me to adjust my day's schedule accordingly. She is even helping me calculate exactly how much champagne I can and should drink!

With being diabetic, and as it relates to my wedding, there are two accommodations to be made. First, I wear an insulin pump, which, for those of you who've never seen one, it's a bulky pager like object that somehow I've got to figure out how to hide under my dress! I'm waiting for my dress to arrive to fit in those details. Secondly, I think it's fair to say that most brides want to lose weight for their wedding and make sure they look their best. This has clearly become a struggle and although there are still about seven months left to the big day, and things may change, losing as much weight as I'd like isn't looking too good right about now! Thankfully, my family and friends have been so extremely encouraging and are working with me to help me shed the weight.

Talar's Story

I wanted to share this blog today because I know I'm not the only bride who may have a medical concern, disability or disease. Being healthy on your wedding day is and should be the number one priority. I'm grateful to be surrounded by a wedding party who knows and understands my needs and am even more thankful for my Doctor, who has helped relieve me from my fears of my big day and making me know that I too, don't have anything to stress about.
